Window cleaning

How often should Adelaide businesses clean their windows?

By MisterClean · · 3 min read

The right window cleaning schedule depends on what your customers see, how the glass is used and how quickly marks return. An Adelaide shopfront beside a busy footpath will have different priorities from internal office partitions. Start with the condition of your glass and the presentation you want to maintain, then choose a schedule you can review. There is no single interval that suits every business.

Use your shopfront as the starting point

Look at the entrance from a customer's position, both outside and inside. Fingerprints around door handles, splash marks near the pavement and a dull film across the glass can be more noticeable than they seem from behind a counter. Check during daylight, when streaks and smears are easier to spot.

For planning, consider whether your frontage needs attention weekly, fortnightly or monthly. Treat that as a trial interval rather than a fixed rule. If visible marks return well before the next visit, adjust the timing or arrange targeted attention to entrance glass between full cleans.

Give internal glass its own schedule

Meeting room partitions, reception panels and internal doors may not need the same treatment as external windows. Frequently touched areas can need regular spot cleaning while larger panes remain presentable for longer. Inspect both sides: a mark on the opposite face is easy to miss.

Include internal glass in your routine cleaning discussion, but confirm its boundaries. Door glass, mirrors, partitions and external glazing are different tasks. A clear scope helps prevent a surface being overlooked because each provider assumed someone else was handling it.

Choose a one-off clean for a defined need

A one-off visit can make sense before opening a premises, after nearby works leave visible dust, or when preparing for an event. It is also a useful starting point when you have inherited windows with an uncertain cleaning history.

Point out adhesive residue, paint spots or persistent staining when requesting a quote. These may require separate assessment and should not be assumed to fall within a standard window clean. After the initial visit, observe how quickly everyday marks return before deciding on recurring service.

Assess access before agreeing to the work

Share photos showing the full window, its height and the surrounding area. Mention awnings, fixed signs, narrow paths, furniture and any restrictions on entry. Hard-to-reach glass needs an access assessment; avoid asking staff to improvise a way to reach it.

Agree on a suitable time for the work, particularly where customers use the entrance throughout the day. Confirm whether the proposed scope covers glass only or also includes frames, sills and tracks. Those details influence the work required and what the finished result includes.

Review what actually needs cleaning

After the first few visits, review the schedule against the condition of the windows rather than keeping an interval by habit. A simple check is enough:

  • Which panes become visibly marked first?
  • Is the entrance presentable between visits?
  • Are internal and external surfaces covered clearly?
  • Have access, trading hours or surrounding conditions changed?
